Semana VII: José Alfredo / El Hijo del Pueblo
the entirety of "Tu Recuerdo y Yo" haunted me... So many of José Alfredo's songs possess an intensely relatable intimacy, confessions that you wouldn't say aloud until you hear them being sung back to you by Don Alfredo. In "Tu Recuerdo y Yo" you share that moment of regret and nostalgia "en el rincon de la cantina." I thought of someone (simultaneously myself, and not myself) sitting at the bar and looking into their shot of tequila, imagining "la que se fue..."
in retrospect, I would have made a piece responding to "El Jinete." it's easily one of my favorite songs in our whole collection. Jiménez is never one to turn away from the darkness "y aunque la noche es muy bella..."
